June 18, 2025
The Griffin Area Resource Center (GARC) marked a significant milestone in its remarkable history with a joyful 70th anniversary celebration on Wednesday, June 18th. This momentous occasion was commemorated with a ribbon cutting ceremony, special guests, and community-wide recognition of GARC’s enduring impact on individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1955, GARC has been a cornerstone in the Griffin community for seven decades, offering vital services such as community access, employment support, day programs, and community living assistance for adults with disabilities. Over the years, the organization has helped countless individuals build independence, confidence, and purpose through personalized support and inclusive programming. As part of the celebration, Mayor Doug Hollberg presented Executive Director Laura Wallace with a formal proclamation, officially declaring June 18, 2025, as “GARC Day” in the City of Griffin. The proclamation honors the organization’s lasting contributions to the community and its unwavering commitment to inclusion and opportunity.
The event was filled with excitement, gratitude, and smiles from clients, staff, board members, and community supporters. One of the highlights of the day was the presence of The Varsity Food Truck, serving up delicious favorites and helping make the day extra festive for all in attendance. “This celebration is not just about looking back at what GARC has accomplished, but also looking ahead with hope and continued dedication to those we serve,” said Wallace. “We are grateful to our staff, supporters, and the City of Griffin for standing with us for 70 years and we’re just getting started.” The 70th anniversary is more than a milestone; it’s a testament to GARC’s mission and its positive influence in the lives of individuals and families throughout the region.
Congratulations to the Griffin Area Resource Center on 70 years of advocacy, empowerment, and community service!
